The Xth European Bat Research Symposium will take place on the campus of National University of Ireland, Galway (NUI, Galway) from August 21-26th 2005. NUI, Galway has been a center for teaching, research and service to the community for over 150 years. The campus is just a few minutes from Galway City, and is readily accessible by public transport and is serviced by its own regional airport. The oral sessions, poster sessions, evening workshop sessions, residential accommodation, dining services and parking facilities are all located on campus and are within easy walking distance of one another.
Duchas, The Heritage Service will hold a bat detector workshop in Killarney National Park, Co. Kerry prior to the symposium. The organising committee welcomes suggestions on topics for discussion both at the evening workshops and at the detector workshop.
Following the success of the European Gastronomic Evening at the 9th Symposium in Le Harve, this event will be repeated in Galway with the addition of some traditional Irish music !
There will be two excursions mid-week when delegates will have the opportunity to visit either the limestone karst landscape of the Burren to the south or the mosaic of mountains, bogs, lakes, rivers and seashore of Connemara to the north.
